The sight is as stunning as the picture below.  The black hills we stayed in were just as beautiful as one would imagine- rustic beauty with cool temperatures and dense forest.  We were camped at the KOA in time for the looming sky to unleash a torrential downpour on out little tent.

We learned shortly that two people in a tent, comeplete with a queen-sized plastic matterss, two computers and a little stove was too much temptation for the little tent to handle.  We were leaking on all sides, and then when the roof started to leak on us, too, it was time to take action.
I went to the store in the pouring rain and bought 2 large tarp and some rope.  In the downpour, I engineered a stunning tarp system to keep us dry.  You'll get to see my mastery in later photos.  Here's Mt. Rushmore...

The most ironic part is, of course- the fact that almost as soon as I had the tarp system up and keeping us dry, the rain slacked into a trickle and stopped all together.  I came in to Gabe sitting there, eating a can of soup, soaking wet and wondering at our cosmic fate.  I think God has a sense of humor.
