Edwards Family Christmas Cruise 2000

The Edwards nucleus packed up suitcases from their respective locations across the country to fly to Miami on December 16, 2000 for a week-long vacation together for Christmas.  Destiantion: sun, fun, and low-key activity in the Carribean on a floating hotel.

First stop, Key West for an afternoon.  Here you see the excited family at the first port of call.  From left- me, Amanda, Stew, Molly, and Dad.  We split up and the girls ended up trying on baithing suits, hats, and sunglasses Elton John would have been proud of.  Key West is actually kind of charming, in a florida sort-of way.  Little beach hut, cottage type houses with new-england style shutters and cookie-cutter gables lined the streets in bright colors under the palm trees.  Mom and I took a private walk down one of these cute little sidestreets before returning to the ship for dinner.

The ship was the Costa Atlantica, Costa Cruise Line.  It's an Italian line, so the essence of the decor, and the food was rather European.  The ship was humungous- and had a glass atrium ascending 13 stories to a very elegant cigar bar in which the men spent a lot of time.  The floor of the staircase going up to the top floor was glass-bottom, so it was a little creepy and Molly wouldn't get near it with a 10 foot pole...

Next stop, Cozumel...
